If you pay rent monthly, the notice period is usually 1 month. Always check your rental agreement, because a minimum rental period or different agreement can affect the end date.

Do I need to give a reason for ending the rent?

No, as a tenant you normally do not need to give a reason. Make sure your letter clearly states that you are ending the rent, on which date and for which home.

Can I end my rent by email?

Only if your landlord accepts this or if your rental agreement allows it. A written letter with proof of sending usually gives more certainty.

What if my landlord does not respond?

Keep your proof of sending and ask for written confirmation. If the landlord does not respond, check that your notice was demonstrably sent on time.
